The Shinden was the first can-wing fighter aircraft developed in Japan for intercepting heavy bombers.
This design allows for efficient use of internal aircraft space,
and enables a smaller fuselage.
The can-wing design generates lift, allowing for smaller wings,
and is therefore extremely effective in terms of aircraft weight and drag,
and offers many advantages in the development of high-speed fighters.
Another major feature is the ability to concentrate large-caliber machine guns in the nose.
The Shinden had high expectations placed upon it, but it never made it to actual combat.
The first prototype flew for 45 minutes on three separate occasions before the war ended.
