■Product Description
The F-14A Tomcat is a carrier-based jet fighter of the United States Navy.
The F-14A uses the AWG-9 (pronounced Augnine) fire control system to track up to 24 targets (enemies) and simultaneously attack 6 of them with Phoenix missiles.
The F-14A also employs unique variable-sweep wings.
These wings are constantly adjusted by a computer to the optimal variable angle.
For example, when the speed decreases, the wings are extended to increase lift.
Conversely, at high speeds, the wings are folded to reduce drag.
Also, when on an aircraft carrier, the wings are folded to avoid getting in the way.
*Fire control system: A device that uses radar mounted on the nose of the aircraft to detect enemies, tracks them with radio waves, and fires missiles (the missile launch is operated by the pilot).
