■Product Description
The P-51 Mustang was a fighter aircraft developed in an astonishingly short time of 117 days, based on a contract signed by the British Aircraft Purchase Committee with North American Aircraft in April 1940.
Initially exported to Britain, it was also adopted by the US Army Air Corps, which had been indifferent to the P-51, when the United States entered the war.
The D model improved the rearward visibility of the B/C models by lowering the upper surface of the rear fuselage and adding a rearward-sliding valve canopy.
Early models did not have a dorsal fin in front of the vertical stabilizer, but one was added during production to improve directional stability.
The reason why the Mustang is considered a masterpiece of World War II has been proven in combat, but the secret to its excellence lies in its design, which was a step ahead of its class, and its overall cohesiveness.
