[A distinguished destroyer known for its valiant efforts in the Battle of the Solomon Islands]
The Special Type destroyers, said to be innovative destroyers, consisted of four types: Type I, Modified Type I, Type II, and Type III. This is a plastic model assembly kit of the Ayanami, the first ship of the Type II, which was completed in 1930. The differences from Type I ships such as the Fubuki, such as the shape of the smokestack, bridge, and turrets, have been faithfully modeled. The parts such as the boats and anti-aircraft guns are also delicately finished. During the Pacific War, the Ayanami sortied to support the Malayan landing operation, the Battle of Midway, and the Second Battle of the Solomon Islands, and was sunk in the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands in 1942 after a fierce battle with the US destroyer fleet, but the kit reproduces the ship in its state before the start of the war.
