[A Small but Unsung Hero of Operational Support]
Following the Special Type destroyers, which appeared as innovative large destroyers, and the heavily armed Hatsuharu-class destroyers, the Shiratsuyu-class destroyers were built by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Ten ships were built and fought valiantly in various parts of the Pacific, but all were sunk. This is a plastic model assembly kit of the Shiratsuyu, the first ship of the class, which appeared in 1936. The sleek hull, which improved upon the lack of stability of the Special Type and Hatsuharu-class, is realistically modeled. The armament parts, such as the five 12.7cm guns and two 61cm quadruple torpedo launchers, are also sharply finished, enhancing the Shiratsuyu's fierce appearance.
