The 18-ton heavy half-track FAMO was the largest half-track of the German army used during World War II. It was developed for tank recovery, towing heavy artillery such as 21cm howitzers, and 22/23-ton trailers, and was also used for transporting troops. Its power was demonstrated when used as a tank recovery vehicle. One half-track could tow a Panzer III or Panzer IV, while three or more could be linked together to tow a Tiger I heavy tank, making it an indispensable and important support vehicle for German tank units.
