■Product Description
Developed as a fifth-generation fighter jet with superior stealth capabilities, the F-35 Lightning II was developed simultaneously in three variants: a conventional landing version (F-35A), a short take-off and vertical landing version (F-35B), and a carrier-based version (F-35C). Deployment has been progressing since 2015, mainly by the U.S. military. Among these, the F-35C, developed as a carrier-based aircraft, has larger wings, vertical stabilizers, and horizontal stabilizers compared to the F-35A and F-35B to improve take-off and landing performance on aircraft carriers, and also has an increased range. It is equipped with details unique to naval aircraft, such as reinforced landing gear struts to withstand hard landings on the flight deck, nose gear with a launch bar to accommodate catapult ejection, and a wingtip folding mechanism that takes into account operation in the confined space on a ship. The possession of the F-35C, the first radar-resistant stealth aircraft in the U.S. Navy, has greatly improved its operational capabilities. As of 2024, the F-35C is deployed to six operational squadrons of the Navy and Marine Corps, and its deployment numbers will gradually increase, so the day when it fills flight decks will soon arrive.
All three main types of the F-35, A, B, and C, are now available.
Following the "1/48 F-35A" and "1/48 F-35B," which achieved a high level of accuracy, precision, and ease of assembly as Tamiya's flagship aircraft models, the carrier-based F-35C has now joined the 1/48 Masterpiece Series. In addition to a product configuration that takes into consideration reliable assembly, the external parts of the aircraft, which have undergone significant changes from the A and B types, have been completely redesigned and faithfully reproduced. It is full of the unique charm of carrier-based aircraft, such as the thick and sturdy landing gear struts, arresting hook, and folding wingtips.
