■Product Description
[A story of courageous battles in convoy escort]
The Swordfish was developed before World War II as the main torpedo bomber of the British Royal Naval Air Service. With its solid design, including biplane wings, a fuselage with a steel tube frame covered in fabric, and fixed landing gear, it fought valiantly throughout the war, taking advantage of its large payload capacity and excellent maneuverability. In 1943, the Mk.II appeared, with an upgraded engine and metal-covered undersides of the lower wings to accommodate anti-ship rockets. Its role shifted to anti-submarine patrol missions to counter commerce raiding by German U-boats. The Swordfish Mk.II, deployed on MAC ships (modified merchant ships) and escort carriers, contributed to the Allied victory by sinking or damaging nearly 20 U-boats by the end of the war.
