[Elegant style in a compact size]
The Hien was the only Japanese fighter aircraft equipped with a liquid-cooled engine during the Pacific War. It was officially adopted in 1943 as the Type 3 Fighter, and its armament was strengthened several times to counter the highly armored US aircraft. Among them, the Type I-Tei, equipped with two 20mm cannons in the fuselage and two 12.7mm cannons in the wings, was the most produced in the series, with approximately 1,360 units manufactured between January 1944 and January 1945. Taking advantage of its excellent high-altitude performance and heavy armament, it played an active role in intercepting B-29s in the air defense of the Japanese mainland.
