[Equipped with a powerful large-caliber cannon]
The M40 is the final development of the self-propelled gun developed by the US military during World War II. Developed using various components from the M4 Sherman, it features an open-top chassis and a new 155mm cannon nicknamed "Long Tom." By making the towed gun self-propelled, the time required to change positions was greatly reduced. The gun was operated by an 8-person crew, and the rate of fire was 1 round per minute. The maximum range using high-explosive shells was 23.5 km. In addition, the stability during firing was To secure its position, it was equipped with a spade at the rear of the hull. A 460-horsepower air-cooled radial engine was mounted in the center of the hull, giving it a maximum speed of 38 km/h. Production began in February 1945, towards the end of the war, and it was officially adopted in May of the same year, but production ended after 418 units due to the end of the war. After prototype vehicles were deployed on the European front for practical testing, it proved extremely effective in indirect fire missions against enemy positions from long range during the Korean War, which broke out in 1950. ■Product Specifications
