[About Military Uniforms]
From the Sino-Japanese War to the Pacific War, Japanese Army officers wore the Type 98 military uniform with a folded collar, which was standardized in 1938. While the uniforms of non-commissioned officers and enlisted men were government-issued, officers, in principle, assembled their uniforms with their own personal belongings before going into battle. Similarly, they carried their own swords, but there were various differences in length and the shape of the guard, as well as different exteriors such as scabbards covered in leather or handles wrapped in cloth. Personal pistols were also frequently seen being carried.
