■Product Description
[A 6-wheel drive vehicle that thoroughly pursues off-road capability] The M561 Gama Goat was officially adopted in 1966 as an amphibious transport vehicle with excellent off-road capability. The vehicle body consists of a four-wheeled tractor section and a two-wheeled trailer section connected by articulated joints, with all six wheels driven. Moreover, the tractor section and trailer section move independently according to the terrain, resulting in extremely high terrain-following ability. By 1973, approximately 14,000 units had been produced and deployed to a wide range of units in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. It was used not only for transport but also for towing artillery. It played an active role in transporting rescued American medical students during the 1983 invasion of Grenada and was used until the early 1990s. The nickname Gama Goat is said to have been taken from the name of R. Garmount, the developer of the articulated joint, and from its mobility on rough terrain, which rivals that of a goat. ■Product Specifications
