■Product Description
[Set includes 3 figures of an M8 on standby]
The M8 was the first fully tracked self-propelled howitzer equipped by the US military during World War II. It mounted an open-top, rotating turret on the chassis of the M5 light tank and was equipped with a short-barreled 75mm howitzer and a 12.7mm M2 machine gun. In addition to high-explosive shells, it could also fire anti-tank shells and smoke grenades, with a maximum range of approximately 8,800m. It was officially adopted in May 1942, and approximately 1,800 units were produced from September of the same year to January 1944. Deployment to units began in mid-1943, and its sufficient offensive and defensive capabilities, as well as its excellent mobility inherited from the M5 light tank, attracted attention, leading to its deployment in fire support missions for armored units on the Italian front, the Northwest European front, and the Pacific theater. After the war, it was also deployed by the French army in the Indochina War.
