The Type 10 tank is the fourth domestically produced main battle tank of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, officially adopted in 2010. It is equipped with a domestically produced 120mm smoothbore gun. Thanks to improvements in fire control systems and other performance aspects, it is said to boast 100% accuracy against moving targets even while performing S-shaped slalom maneuvers. Furthermore, the adoption of detachable modular armor on the hull and turret enhances defensive capabilities and operational efficiency, and rapid deployment throughout Japan is possible via trailer transport. Deployment to units began in 2012, and is gradually replacing the Type 74 tank. Even after production began, the Type 10 tank has undergone specification changes to better suit actual operations, playing a role in further strengthening defense capabilities.
