While the basic design followed that of the US-1A, improvements were made to the engine output, cabin pre-pressurization, the adoption of a computer-controlled fly-by-wire system, and the introduction of infrared night vision equipment. It was certified for unit use in 2007. It has excellent short take-off and landing performance, and in combination with its unique wave-breaking device, it can take off and land on the sea with wave heights of up to 3m.
