It was built at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal. After completion, it belonged to the 16th Destroyer Division of the 2nd Torpedo Squadron along with Hatsukaze, Tokitsukaze, and Amatsukaze. During the Pacific War, Yukikaze participated in the Southern Invasion Operation from the outset of the war, engaging in gun battles with the Allied fleet at the Battle of the Java Sea. From then on, she participated in fierce battles such as the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands, the Guadalcanal evacuation operation, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the Yamato suicide attack operation, but miraculously survived each time, demonstrating her incredible good fortune. After these battles, the appearance of Yukikaze changed dramatically, transforming from a heavily armed ship for ship-to-ship combat to a ship with enhanced anti-aircraft combat armament. A new gun mount was installed in front of the bridge, and one 25mm twin machine gun was installed there. Furthermore, the 25mm twin machine guns installed in the center of the hull were changed to triple machine guns, and in 1944, the second main gun turret at the rear was removed and two 25mm triple anti-aircraft machine guns were added in its place. As the fighting intensified daily and her sister ships were lost one after another with each battle, she became the sole survivor of the Type A destroyers, including not only the Kagero-class but also the nearly identical Yugumo-class. After the war, all her armament was removed and living quarters were installed, and she became a repatriation ship, engaged in transporting Japanese people returning from overseas. It is said that the Yukikaze carried more than 10,000 repatriates. Manga artist Shigeru Mizuki also recalled being repatriated on the Yukikaze. On July 6, 1947, she was handed over to the Republic of China as a war reparation ship, and her name was changed to Danyang. The Republic of China welcomed the Yukikaze as the flagship of its fleet. Due to the effects of typhoons and aging, she was dismantled in 1970.

■Product Specifications
Manufacturer: Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co., Ltd.
Product Specifications: 1/700 Waterline No. 444
Release Date: Scheduled for April 2024
Scale: 1/700
JAN: 4905083066645

■Notes
*The images shown are of a prototype.
*The series number will continue even after the renewal.
