■Product Description
The Object 279 is a Soviet prototype heavy tank developed in the 1950s.
Several development plans for new heavy tanks were underway in the Soviet Union in the 1950s, and the Object 279 was one of them, developed as a "heavy tank designed to operate under nuclear war."
With its unique shape, including a disc-like fluid curved hull and four tracks (two on each side) designed to deflect the blast and shockwaves of a nuclear explosion and prevent the hull from overturning, the prototype was completed in 1959 and underwent various tests. The test results were favorable, showing high mobility on rough terrain thanks to the ground pressure of the four tracks, which was comparable to that of a light tank, and a high-output engine.
However, due to its complex structure and high production costs, as well as doubts about its ability to operate in terrain separated by large rivers due to its lack of amphibious capabilities, it was not officially adopted or mass-produced.
●Tracks are articulated and movable
