■Product Description
The Pzj G-13 tank destroyer is an improved version of the Hetzer tank destroyer developed and produced by Germany in Czechoslovakia at the end of World War II. After the war, Czechoslovakia, which had regained its independence, began selling the Hetzer tank destroyer overseas as a means of earning foreign currency. Switzerland, which had purchased the LTH tank in the 1930s, which had almost identical running gear and mechanical systems to the Hetzer, and operated it as the "Pz.39", signed a contract with Skoda in 1946 to produce a prototype vehicle designated as the "G-13". 158 G-13s were produced and delivered at the Skoda factory between 1946 and 1950. The G-13 was equipped with the 7.5cm 48-caliber gun "StuK 40" from the Sturmgesch?tz III, rather than the 7.5cm 48-caliber gun "PaK 39" used on the Hetzer. A muzzle brake was fitted to the gun, and the positions of the loader and commander were swapped to accommodate the change in main gun. To compensate for the vulnerable side armor, spare tracks were fitted to both sides of the hull, and an additional spare road wheel was fitted to the right side. The Swiss Army began introducing the Centurion tank in 1955, which led to the gradual retirement of the G-13, but it remained in service for a long time afterward, with the last vehicle being retired in 1972.
