This is a tool for measuring groove width, with the actual line width printed on a transparent material.
When you want to re-engrave grooves in a plastic model with a tool, but you don't know which width of tool is appropriate, you can place it over the area you want to measure as shown in the diagram and find the matching width size.
This allows you to upgrade from the process of actually placing a tool in the groove to measuring it, to a more accurate measurement.
