Introducing a new 1/72 scale Lajak 43 prototype trainer full resin kit from SBS Models of Hungary. The Lajak 43 was a single-engine, two-seat prototype trainer designed and manufactured by the Free French Forces at the Lajak Air Base in Lebanon. In 1942, General de Gaulle of France appointed Jean Demozet, an ace pilot of the Free French Air Force, as commander of the French Air Force in the Middle East in order to reorganize the French Air Force by having French instructors train French pilots in French-made aircraft at French military bases. Demozet was assigned to the Lajak base, but there were no trainer aircraft at the base, so he planned to manufacture a new trainer aircraft based on a Caudron C.600 liaison aircraft that had been left at the base for many years after an accident. To produce the aircraft, they purchased aircraft plywood from Turkey and acquired a Gypsy Major engine for the DH Tiger Moth from the British Royal Air Force in North Africa. In March 1944, a prototype was completed, and after a successful maiden flight, it was named Layak 43. However, a month later, Demodze was invited to Russia, and the new commander of the Layak base who took his place canceled the mass production plan for the Layak 43, and all 12 aircraft under construction were scrapped. The kit includes clear resin canopy parts, photo-etched parts, and one type of decal. SBS Models' full resin kits prioritize ease of assembly and keep the number of parts as compact as possible, making it easy to build even with parts that are difficult to reproduce with injection molding.
