The Nordenfeld-I was the first submarine developed and manufactured by Swedish inventor Thorsten Nordenfeld and British inventor George Garrett. With a range of 240km and equipped with a 25.4mm machine gun and one torpedo, this submarine was built between 1884 and 1885. Although the crew had to shut down the boilers and retract the smokestack when submerged, it was possible to operate underwater for short periods by storing steam in a steam accumulator tank while on the surface and using it to drive the engine when submerged. The Nordenfeld-I was purchased by the Greek government and sent to the Salamis naval base in 1886 for acceptance testing, but it was never used by the Greek Navy and was dismantled in 1901. The kit includes photo-etched parts and a display stand.
