Introducing the limited edition of the Type II Special Destroyer "Ayanami," a hero of the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands.
On the 15th of 1942, after losing the battleship "Hiei" in the previous naval battle, the Japanese Navy decided to make the remaining battleship "Kirishima" the main force of the bombardment force on Guadalcanal and launch another attack. At this time, the destroyer "Ayanami" was in the forward patrol task force when a US surface force consisting of two battleships and four destroyers appeared before it, having sortied to stop the Japanese fleet. At this time, "Ayanami" was acting alone and engaged in a gun and torpedo battle against this US fleet, destroying the destroyers "Preston" and "Walk" with gunfire, then finishing off "Walk" with torpedoes, and sinking "Benham" with a torpedo hit. She achieved the feat of sinking the USS Preston, which had been severely damaged and ablaze by the shelling, and furthermore, the shells she fired at the state-of-the-art battleship USS South Dakota damaged the ship's electrical circuits, causing problems for its combat operations in this naval battle.
It is said that the exploits of the Ayanami impressed the director of the anime "Evangelion," and that the name of the character "Rei Ayanami" in the film was adopted.
