■Product Description
This is a 1/43 scale handmade model car of the "Honda Civic Type R (EK9) 1998" produced by "EIDOLON".
This model faithfully reproduces the "Honda Civic Type R (EK9)", which was released in 1998 as a late model and was the third model in Honda's proud sports grade "Type R" series.
【Vehicle Description】
The sixth-generation EK Civic, released in September 1995, did not initially have a Type R setting, but the top-grade SiR was a sufficiently fast car, equipped with a B16A VTEC engine that produced 170 horsepower from a 1.6-liter displacement.
Nevertheless, there was a strong demand for a Type R in the market, and in response, Honda finally released the Civic Type R (EK9) in August 1997, nearly two years after the introduction of the 6th generation Civic.
As it was to bear the Type R name, it was required to have power performance and handling that far surpassed the SiR, and the engine underwent processes such as manually polishing the ports of the intake and exhaust manifolds, which was unusual for a mass-produced engine from a manufacturer, achieving a maximum output of 185 horsepower, which is numerically equivalent to 116 horsepower per liter. The intake and exhaust systems were also meticulously tuned, and the VTEC switched on from low revs and revved smoothly up to 8500 rpm, making it a car that only Honda could have made and which became extremely popular.
The body was reinforced in various places to ensure the stiff suspension functioned properly, which increased its weight, but by thoroughly eliminating equipment unrelated to driving performance, it achieved a weight reduction of about 30 kg compared to the SiR. The Civic underwent a minor change in September 1998, and the Type R also transitioned to the later model, with production continuing until November 2001.
The later model features changes to the front bumper, fenders, headlight shape, front grille shape, engine hood, and taillight color scheme. The biggest difference in the interior is that the audio space on the instrument panel was changed from 1DIN in the earlier model to 2DIN in the later model.
We have already released the earlier model, but this is our first release of the later model.
[Model Explanation]
In creating the model, we scanned the actual later model car and compared it with the original data of the earlier model, reflecting all the differences, and then created new original data for the later model.
The differences between the early and late models of the EK9 may be difficult to discern for those unfamiliar with the car, but the front fascia differs in the bumper, grille, headlights, engine hood, and left and right fenders.
The headlights differ not only in the housing shape but also in the shape of the lights themselves, so we created a new prototype, replaced it with a white metal cast part, and applied chrome plating to recreate the look of the actual car.
The interior was also modeled based on 3D scan data, and not only the design but also the size is the same as the actual car. For example, when you look into the interior through the front window, the bright red Recaro seats that immediately catch your eye look just like the real thing. Furthermore, we have pursued the texture of various materials by making full use of the gloss of the paint.
This release is the late model, so if you already own our early model car, you can check the differences such as the dashboard with a 2DIN audio space, the equipment of the steering wheel with an airbag, and the shape of the door armrests.
The lineage of the Honda Civic Type R continues to this day. The EK9, which is the origin of this lineage, has been out of production for over 20 years, and it is difficult to find one in good condition, but with our model cars, it is easy to enjoy having two pristine examples of the early and late models side by side.
