【Vehicle Description】
The GR Yaris is a WRC homologation model released in 2020 by GAZOO Racing, which feeds back Toyota's motorsport activities and the know-how gained there into production cars.
Toyota's return to the WRC had already been achieved in 2017 with the Yaris WRC, based on the previous generation Yaris (the third generation Vitz in Japan), and despite the machine being developed somewhat hastily, it performed well. And as its successor, the GR Yaris, released in 2020, is a GR brand exclusive model that was designed with the possibility of being converted into a WRC car in mind.
The 3-door hatchback body, which is not found in other Japanese-spec Yaris models, is a special design, and the platform combines that of the Yaris with that of the C-segment, one class higher, to significantly increase rigidity. The engine is a 3-cylinder engine with a 1.6-liter displacement that produces 272 horsepower, and it is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a full-time 4WD system.
The GRMN Yaris is an evolution model of the GR Yaris that was unveiled at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. It uses lightweight and highly rigid carbon fiber (twill weave CFRP) for the hood, roof, and rear spoiler, and the rear seats have been removed, resulting in a weight reduction of approximately 20 kg. In addition, the number of spot welds has been increased by 545 to enhance body rigidity. The transmission has been specially designed with close ratios to efficiently utilize the engine's power band, and this is combined with a low final gear that optimizes the driving force.
In addition to the standard specifications, a circuit package and a rally package are available, with prices ranging from 7,317,000 to 8,467,000 yen (including tax).
【Model Description】
The prototype was designed by combining data obtained from thorough research of the actual car and 3D scanning with the design data of the standard GR Yaris model that we previously released. Rather than designing it from scratch, we deliberately overwrote the data of the standard car to unify the resolution and expression techniques as a model of the same GR Yaris, and also to highlight the differences depending on the specifications.
The circuit package is equipped with a rear spoiler and engine hood and roof panel made of carbon (twill weave CFRP), and the side skirts and lip spoiler are also specially made parts, and these features are reproduced without reservation in the model.
All carbon parts have decals applied and are then coated with a glossy clear coat to give the impression of being just like the actual car.
Similarly, the specially made BBS GRMN-exclusive 18-inch wheels use injection-molded parts made by creating precise molds.
Clear injection-molded parts are used for the windows to reproduce realistic curves.
Currently, we are releasing various standard GR Yaris models as well as TOM'S specifications in 1/43 and 1/18 scales. We plan to release various variations in the future, so we hope you will purchase them all and enjoy displaying them together.
