About the actual vehicle
The German Tiger I tank, with its powerful 88mm main gun, demonstrated overwhelming power against the Allied and Soviet forces. With its linear hull shape and 100mm of heavy frontal armor, the Tiger I was a representative tank of World War II in terms of both offensive and defensive capabilities. Production began in 1942, and when assigned to heavy tank battalions, it demonstrated its power on the North African and Eastern Fronts. The type produced from 1943 to 1944 is called the mid-production model. Improvements were made to various parts, such as the elimination of smoke grenade launchers and the replacement of the cupola with a periscope. Another characteristic was that from the middle of the mid-production model, the Zinlit coating to protect against magnetic mines became standard equipment. Although the Tiger I was gradually deployed starting in 1942, the 506th Heavy Tank Battalion, formed in July 1943, was the first unit to be composed entirely of Tiger I tanks from the outset. After fighting valiantly on the Eastern Front, its equipment was upgraded to the Tiger II, and it participated in the Battle of Arnhem and the Battle of the Ardennes on the Western Front.
About the Model
This kit is a 1/35 scale plastic model kit of the Tiger I. It models the mid-production model. The hull parts reproduce the state with the Zimmerit coating applied to the hull to protect against magnetic mines. Details such as the pattern and depth of the coating are also accurately represented. Of course, various parts of the hull, as well as the undercarriage, are also modeled in detail. The tracks use assembly-type Magic Tracks. In addition, a metal part machined from aluminum is provided for the gun barrel. Furthermore, the muzzle brake is a 3D printed part that accurately reproduces the shape and details. The markings reproduce a vehicle assigned to the 506th Heavy Tank Battalion. The package art illustration is by Masami Onishi, who is well known to Japanese military modelers. It powerfully depicts the heroic figure of the Tiger I fighting valiantly on the Eastern Front in winter. The illustration is powerful and expands the imagination for diorama creation, with the tense atmosphere of the infantry clad in winter gear and the dark clouds gathering in the background. The Tiger I kit, as well as the package, is a noteworthy item that you shouldn't miss.
