【About the actual aircraft】
The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft developed and operated by the US Navy as a successor to the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. Developed based on the U.S. Navy's F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet, the Growler entered service in 2009. It has a crew of two: a pilot and a WSO (Weapons Systems Officer) in the rear seat. Electronic warfare equipment includes the AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System (TJS) pod, the AN/ALQ-218(V)2 radio frequency receiving system, and the AN/ALQ-227 communications countermeasures set. It is powered by two General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofan engines and can reach a top speed of nearly Mach 1.8. Armed with this equipment, the Growler counters enemy air defense (SEAD) aircraft. VAQ-130 Zappers, the oldest electronic warfare squadron in the U.S. Navy, which originated as Carrier Early Warning Squadron 13 (VAW-13) in 1959, has also been operating the Growler since 2011.
【About the Kit】
This kit is a 1/48 scale reproduction of the US Navy's current electronic warfare aircraft, the EA-18G Growler. It is a plastic model assembly kit with a finished length of 381mm. The impressive size accurately models the distinctive form. Furthermore, this kit includes metal AOA probe parts that can be attached to the exterior of the aircraft. The sharp finish enhances the detail of the aircraft, resulting in a realistic model. The metal parts are made by Master. The combination of machined base parts and photo-etched parts achieves delicate expression. Of course, the kit offers plenty of building satisfaction unique to 1/48 scale, including the aircraft shape, tandem cockpit arrangement, landing gear and landing gear bays. A special masking sheet convenient for painting the canopy frame is also included. The markings selected are those of VAQ-130 Zappers, which has been operating the Growler since 2011. It reproduces the appearance with the Zapper Dragon insignia, a dragon depicted on the tail fin, which has been inherited from the era of its predecessor, the VAW-13.
