The USS North Carolina was a US Navy battleship that entered service in 1941.
After entering service, it suffered from problems that required time for repairs and modifications, and it took a long time before it could be deployed in combat, so it was given the nickname "Showboat," meaning a battleship that was only for show.
After being deployed in combat, it was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet, and then from 1942 it was transferred to the Pacific front. It played an active role in the Battle of the Solomon Islands and the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
Its length was 222.11m, its standard displacement was 36,600 tons, and it was equipped with nine 45-caliber 40.6cm guns as its main armament. Two ships of the same class, including the Washington, were built and played an active role throughout World War II.
