About the actual aircraft
The MiG-21 is a masterpiece Soviet fighter that entered service in 1959, and various types were produced, remaining in active service even into the 2000s. The design was handled by the Mikoyan Gregovich Design Bureau, and the prototype made its first flight in 1955. It was officially given the name MiG-21 in 1956. The first mass-produced model was called the MiG-21F, and improved types appeared thereafter. Among them, the MiG-21bis can be said to be the perfected version of the MiG-21. The MiG-21bis made its first flight in 1971. The aircraft was equipped with one Tumansky R-25-300 turbojet engine, achieving a top speed of 2175 km/h. Its armament consisted of one fixed 23mm GSh-23L cannon. The airframe had four hardpoints, allowing for a maximum load of 1300 kg of weapons. It was widely deployed and operated not only in the Soviet Union but also in other communist countries.
About the Model
This model is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit reproducing the Soviet masterpiece fighter, the MiG-21. This model represents the MiG-21bis type, which was the mainstay of the MiG-21 from the 1970s to the 1980s, among the many variations of the MiG-21. It accurately reproduces the distinctive shape of the MiG-21 fishbed, with its delta wings and air intake at the nose. The parts are made by Eduard, ensuring reliable assembly. The aircraft's shape is accurately represented, including the separate parts for the hump section from the rear of the cockpit to the vertical stabilizer. Furthermore, the air brake parts can be assembled in either open or closed position. Choosing between the different finished looks is also part of the fun. The cockpit interior is also modeled in detail, including the instrument panel and seats. The markings reproduce the aircraft with a natural metal silver body and a blue tactical number 40 painted on the nose. The Cyrillic letters indicating permission from the Soviet Communist Youth League, painted behind the number 40, are also reproduced as decals.
