About the actual vehicle
The Tiger I heavy tank developed by Germany in World War II began production in 1942.
Production continued until August 1944. The total number of vehicles produced during that time was only about 1300, but improvements and modifications continued, and there were subtle differences in specifications. The 88mm gun, which boasted overwhelming power as an anti-tank gun, was used to counter the heavily armored Allied and Soviet tanks. Furthermore, it adopted heavy armor, including 100mm of frontal armor that repelled Allied attacks. From its introduction until the end of the war, it became a formidable force that instilled fear in the Allied forces. The Tiger I was first sent to the Eastern Front, where the Soviet army was struggling against heavy tanks, and was subsequently sent to the German Africa Corps in the North African campaign. The 501st Heavy Tank Battalion, formed in May 1942, was the first unit to be equipped with the Tiger I, consisting of 20 Tiger I tanks and 16 Panzer III tanks. Deployed to the North African front in November 1942, it fought valiantly against British and American forces in Tunisia until May 1943.
About the Model
This model reproduces the Tiger I of the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion, which was deployed to the North African front during World War II from 1942 to 1943, in 1/35 scale.
The characteristics of the very early production model Tiger I are expressed in detail. This kit faithfully reproduces the features of the very early production model, including the turret equipped with a pistol port and a staggered storage box at the rear, as well as the folded front fenders. The turret body parts, gun shield, and storage box are accurately modeled in shape and detail. The gun barrel is made of machined aluminum, enhancing the realism. The tracks, which tighten the look of the undercarriage, are assembly-type Magic Tracks, and together with the early model road wheel parts, enhance the realism of the wheels. Photo-etched parts for detailing are also provided for various parts. The markings are, of course, those of the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion, which was active on the North African front. This is an indispensable kit for the Tiger I lineup.
