■Product Description
The E-2 Hawkeye is an early warning aircraft manufactured by Northrop Grumman in the United States. It is mainly operated by the U.S. Navy from aircraft carriers and land bases. It is an early warning aircraft developed by the U.S. Navy for use as a carrier-based aircraft. Because it is an affordable early warning aircraft, it has been exported to many countries, including Japan.
It has a large disc-shaped radome on the back of the fuselage and performs air defense warning and surveillance with powerful radar and electronic equipment. The crew consists of two pilots and three radar operators.
The latest model of the E-2, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, is currently in service. The radar has been replaced from AN/APS-145 to AN/APY-9, and the GPS/CEC/SATCOM antennas are built into the radome. Optical fiber is used for data transmission inside the aircraft, improving transmission efficiency. The engine was replaced with a T56-A-427A, and an aerial refueling tanker was installed on the nose to extend the flight time. Other improvements included the radio system and integrated satellite communication capabilities.
