■Product Description
The F-4F adopted by the West German Air Force was a simplified aircraft compared to the US Air Force's F-4E due to budgetary constraints. The operation of the AIM-7 air-to-air missile, the main armament, was abandoned, and the AN/APQ-120 fire control system was downgraded. Furthermore, procurement of new aircraft in the AIM-9 series was abandoned, and it became dedicated to the AIM-9B. Due to its analog radar targeting system, it could not process digital image signals from electro-optical weapons, and was therefore unable to operate the then state-of-the-art AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missile. The F-4F was not equipped with all-weather capabilities and was designated as a NATO Clear Weather Interceptor (CWI), with its primary mission being air support for ground forces. West Germany procured a total of 175 F-4Fs, which were assigned to the fighter squadrons JG71 and JG74, and the fighter-bomber squadrons JB35 and JB36, respectively. This kit reproduces two types of JG74 aircraft and the markings of aircraft belonging to the 20th Fighter Squadron (20TFTS), a US Air Force training squadron for the German Air Force. In particular, JG74 was named by G?nther Rall, a veteran ace pilot of World War II who rose to the rank of Lieutenant General in the West German Air Force, in honor of ace pilot M?lders, who boasted 115 confirmed kills.
