■Product Description
●About the US Air Force F-4E Fighter (Late Model) "Clark Air Base"
The F-4's most powerful version, the E model, enhanced its maneuverability by adding fixed slats to the stabilizers (tail fin stabilizers). However, the added cannons and improvements to other equipment increased its weight, raising concerns about its maneuverability. From the later production lots of the E model (including export models), the leading-edge flaps on the main wing were eliminated and replaced with movable leading-edge slats, significantly improving maneuverability. This modification, which was also applied to existing production aircraft, was also adopted for the Navy's S model. The movable leading-edge slats were also called combat flaps, but in recent years they have been called soft wings, and the conventional normal main wing is called a hard wing to distinguish them.
●About the Kit
This product reproduces this soft wing with a new mold. The leading-edge slat outer wing section is a separate part to enhance realism. The TISEO optical television camera is also three-dimensionally reproduced with a new mold, and the lens part is made of clear parts. The included decals are for the markings of the 3rd Tactical Wing (3TFW), a U.S. Pacific Air Forces unit deployed to Clark Air Base in the Philippines after the Vietnam War. Its subordinate 3rd Fighter Squadron (3TFS) played a long role in maintaining stability around the South China Sea with the aim of deterring Vietnam and the Soviet Union. The F-4E, with its long nose and shark teeth markings, frequently flies to Yokota Air Base and Kadena Air Base, making it a familiar unit in Japan. The package illustration depicts a scene on the Clark Air Base apron around 1984.
