■Product Description
The Type 17 Carrier Fighter (later named the Experimental Reppu), planned as a successor to the Zero Fighter, had its requirements submitted by the Navy in 1942, as its name suggests. The design was difficult due to the excessive performance requirements and the lack of choice in engines. Furthermore, the Navy was busy with the production and modification of the Zero Fighter and Raiden, which were already in service, so the first prototype was not completed until April 1944. In its first flight, both its maneuverability and flight stability were highly praised, but due to insufficient engine power, its speed and climb performance were far from the required values, and modifications continued until the end of the war.
