About the actual Type 61 tank
The Type 61 tank was officially adopted in April 1961 (Showa 36) as the first domestically produced tank after the war, and was deployed to replace used tanks from World War II and the Korean War supplied by the US military. 560 units were produced by around the time of the adoption of the Type 74 tank in 1974 (Showa 49), and it continued to be used as a frontline tank for a long time afterward.
